The West African Small & Mid-Scale Agro Startups Support Organization (WASSMAS) is invited an applications from interested and qualified Africans for its agricultural grant program. The application portal is now accessible for interested and qualified from Nigeria, Ghana, Benin, Senegal, Niger, etc.

The West African Small & Mid-Scale Agro Startups Support Organization is a non-profit organisation committed to empowering farmers, agribusinesses and emerging agribusinesses in West Africa. 

Agriculture is the backbone of the economy of many West African countries, yet most small and medium-sized farmers continue to face challenges such as lack of finance, lack of technology, lack of market linkages, and inadequate training.

WASSMAS Program Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the WASSMAS Agro Startups Support Program, applicants must meet the following conditions:

1. Nationality

Applicant must be a citizen of  African countries (ECOWAS member states such as Nigeria, Ghana, Benin, Senegal, Niger, etc.).

2. Business Sector

Must be engaged in agriculture or agro-allied activities, including but not limited to:

• Agro-processing
• Crop Cultivation
• Fish Farming
• Integrated Farming
• Livestock Farming
• Minor Ruminants

3. Business Scale

Open to small and mid-scale agro startups

Business may be:

• Newly established, or Already operating but seeking expansion, support, or formalization

4. Age Requirement

• Applicant must be 18 years and above
• Youths and women in agribusiness are strongly encouraged to apply

5. Business Status

Applicant must:

• Own or co-own the agro business
• Have a clear and viable agribusiness idea with implementation potential

WASSMAS Agricultural Grant Type

1. Agro-processing: Access to funding for value addition facilities including processing equipment and packaging systems.

2. Crop Cultivation: Get comprehensive support for rice, maize, cassava, and vegetable farming with modern equipment seeds.

3. Fish Farming: Access to specialized funding for tilapia and catfish farming operations including pond construction.

4. Integrated Farming: Get support for diversified farming operations combining crops, livestock, and fish farming.

5. Livestock Farming: Get support for cattle, poultry, and small ruminant farming operations with funding for equipment and infrastructure.

6. Minor Ruminants: Access to comprehensive support for pig farming and small ruminant operations with funding for housing.

WASSMAS Agricultural Grant Application Process 

Four 4 step process is designed to access to funding to deserving farmers as soon as possible.

1. Eligibility Criteria: Complete a 5 minute quiz to verify your farm meets the basic criteria for the specific grant.

2. Proposal: Submit your business plan, budget breakdown, and proof of land ownership/lease.

3. Site Inspection: Our field agents visit your location to verify existing infrastructure and feasibility.

4. Disbursement: Upon approval, funds are released in tranches based on project milestones.
